End of Year expectations for Year 1 English and Maths

These are the words which do not follow the usual spelling patterns learned in phonics or spelling lessons and are therefore trickier to commit to memory. As well as covering them in class over the course of the year, spelling games or sentence work with these words will help your child with committing them to memory.

100 High frequency words

These high frequency words are the most common words your child is going to use in their writing. This simple word mat features key vocabulary. It is a great resource to keep on hand as a prompt and spelling reference during independent writing tasks and other activities.

Some fun activities to keep spelling work at home exciting and memorable! Games and repetitive activities like these are brilliant for helping children practise their work without the tediousness of just writing the words.
