School Meals

Holywell School Kitchen

Meet our Healthy Lunches Superheroes

We are an accredited Healthy School and so we know the value of a good and nourishing meal for our children.  Because of this, every year we work closely with the EKC Commercial Services to create a menu just for us and our children which meets our needs exclusively.

We believe in good quality ingredients in homemade cooking.  Not only do our amazing kitchen staff cook for our children, they cook for our staff too - a definite thumbs up from us!

Our kitchen staff, Mrs Okhamesan and Mrs Frew can cater for any dietary requirements.  If your child has allergies or dislikes, we can cater for them too.  The staff are friendly and are happy to meet to discuss needs of the children and how best to cater for them.

We also hold are many parent lunches, as well as picnics and in-school events such as smoothie making and cookery classes!

free school meals

Some parents may be eligible to claim free school meals and this could mean that the school will receive additional funding to support children’s learning known as Pupil Premium.

From September 2014 all pupils in reception, year one or year two in primary schools will be entitled to free school meals.

For children in year three and above they could get free school meals if you get:

  • Income Support (IS)
  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA-IR)
  • Income Based Jobseeker’s Allowance (IB-JSA)
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit and are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and your annual income, as assessed by the Inland Revenue, does not exceed £16,190
  • Working Tax Credit ‘run on’- the payment you receive for a further four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  •

If you receive one of the above benefits that entitle your child to free school meals, you can also register your eligibility with the council so that the school can benefit from additional funding, called pupil premium.

To apply for Free School Meals you can either speak to our friendly office staff confidentially or apply direct on the website to:

https://www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-children/schools/free-school-meals

The pupil premium gives schools extra funding to raise the achievement of some pupils. This is measured by the number of children eligible for free school meals based on the above qualifying benefits. It is worth over £1000 funding per pupil for our school.
